On 30th Aug. 1964, Mother General Mary Leo purchased 2 acres of land and building from Mr. Joseph Vypana, at Arunapuram, quite close to the main road and just opposite to St. Thomas College. The very same day the building was blessed and Mother Leo and some sisters began to stay here. It was the wish of Mother Leo to start a common house where it was convenient for journey and higher education for young sisters. This convent and the Alphonsa Hostel are the fulfillment of this dream. It was the desire and the request of the common people that there should have a hostel for girls run by sisters. Taking a big amount as loan, a three storied building for two hundred girls was constructed. In all these painstaking efforts, general councilor Sr. Benjamin supported Mother Leo whole heartedly. During holidays retreats and different courses were conducted here. For a few years this house functioned as the FCC Generalate of Pala.

            Now there are 16 sisters staying here. Two of them are wardens, some are studying in Alphonsa and St. Thomas Colleges, a few are teaching in the nearby schools and three of them are working in the Marian hospital. Sisters are active in all the activities of the parish church, faith formation, family apostolate and counseling. In the hostel there are students of Alphonsa, St. Thomas Colleges and Brilliant Study Centre. Brilliant is a famous entrance coaching centre for Medicine and Engineering. So the hostel is fill with students. Sisters take special care in their character formation and spiritual life.
