Description | : Alphonsa
convent building was constructed with all conveniences with the aim of making
it the Generalate of Pala FCC. The Palai Bishop and the people expressed their
wish to have a hospital run by sisters at Pala. Accordingly in 1973 a part of
the spacious convent building was changed into a small hospital named 'Marian
Medical Centre'. As the hospital was growing fast the provincial house was
shifted from there and Alphonsa Convent became a house for the sisters who were
working in the hospital. Later the whole building was taken for hospital and
another building was built for the convent and it was named Alphonsa Convent.
As the number of Inpatients and Departments increased the number of sister
nurses also increased. Now in this convent there are 60
sisters some of whom are working in the various Departments in the hospital and
others are retired. Sisters are in-charged of the Nursing School. Then there is 'St. Joseph's Home for the Destitute' where destitute and dying patients looked
after well by the sisters. There is a spacious and a beautiful chapel here.
Since 2002 there is adoration throughout the day except on Sundays. Sisters are
praying in front of the Eucharist for special intentions and specially for
those who are seriously ill and undergoing operations and those who have asked
for prayers. Many of those who are coming to the hospitals also participate in
the adoration, at least for some time. Because of the hard work, service
mindedness, trust in God and co-operation and mutual understanding the various
activities of the convent, hospital and other institutions are successful. |
